2.2 Optical measurements and choice of manufacturer

We have searched the market in order to find the appropriate quality of aerogel, in order to guarantee the maximum light output using the lowest possible index of refraction. We tested [2-1] aerogel of index of refraction n=1.055 and n=1.03 from various producers. Here, we summarize the results obtained by testing aerogel from: a) Novosibirsk Institute of Catalysis, Novosibirsk, Russia, and b) Matsushita Electric Works Ltd., Japan.
