A.1 Preliminary Calculation of the Honeycomb plate using finite element Analysis
The stresses in the aluminum skins+frame and triangle show a maximum stress of 84 MPa (including a saftey factor of two) which is lower than the tensile strength of the aluminum skin: 440 MPa. The margin of safety is 4.23 which is well above zero.
Similarly, for the aluminum core, the maximum stress is 0.4 MPa (including the safety factor of two), which is also lower than the tensile strength of the aluminum core: 2.3 MPa. The margin of safety equals to 4.75, well above zero.
