AMS Event Pictures

AMS Event Pictures

Here are pictures (in .gif format) of a few events taken with the AMS detector triggering on muons during integration and testing at ETH Zurich.

For each event the front and side views are shown. The outline of each detector, except the Anitcoincidence counters, is shown in black. Clusters of hits in the silicon microstrip tracker are shown in dark blue, the size being proportional to the charge. Note that in the "Front" view each hit is shown several times owing to the way the microstrips are connected. Hits in the Time of Flight scintillators are shown in green, the size of the box indicating how well (up to now) the hit can be localized. Hits in Anticoincidence counters, if any, are shown in violet and hits in the Aerogel Cerenkov detector at the bottom are shown in light blue. The fitted track is shown in grey if there are several possibilities for the fit, or in red if the track has been unambigously fit.

Below ``thumbnails'' of the events are shown, click on them to display the full size .gif picture.

These pictures were produced with the AMS offline analysis program and the ROOT system from R. Brun et al.

(ps: Yes -- some of the pictures are scrambulated at the bottom.)
